The Things We Inherit

In progress

One length of George cloth, followed from a tin box to a jacket to a wall. What we keep, and what keeping costs.

George cloth, half folded and half cut

This study starts with a cloth nobody was allowed to wear.

It moves through four stages: the finding of it, the argument about it, the cutting of it into a jacket, and the wall made from what the cutting left behind. One length of George, followed the whole way, until there is nothing of it left over and none of it thrown away.

The question underneath is not about cloth. It is about everything handed down with an instruction attached: keep this. The study answers by using the thing instead.
